Magic perhaps has never been more popular than it is today following the creations of Harry Potter and the endless number of revamped Merlins, whilst popular culture has seen mystical elements make an appearance in TV shows such as Game of Thrones and many others.
For those who have been interested in seeing the magical moments created from scratch, though, then Yggdrasil’s Alchymedes slot game is the one for you as it appears to take players to a laboratory – something that Merlin would probably be happy with.
Gameplay
Our Alchymedes slot game review tested the gameplay of this slot game from the Swedish developers and we were impressed from the outset.
The game is made up of 5 reels and has 30 paylines, however Yggdrasil threw in a curveball with this game as they kept the magical element alive. They did this by providing us with 60 actual paylins, as symbols can be matched from right-to-left as well as the more traditional ways that we are accustomed to.
The bet placed can be modified with ease by using the ‘+/-’ buttons available next to the ‘Coin Value’ button, with 0.01 the lowest (0.30¢) per spin and 2.0 the highest ($60). There are a number of options in between, which is quite handy. The ‘Bet Max’ button is a staple of Yggdrasil games, as is the ‘Auto Play’ button.
In the settings, there is an option to increase/decrease the speed of the reels, which is represented by symbols of the classic tortoise and the hare fable.
The symbols follow the magical theme Alchymedes is trying to follow, with a mixture of potions being the highest valued icons to be collected. There are 4 jars made up of either purple, orange, blue or green, with purple being worth up to 1,000 credits when on maximum. The 4 symbols of spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs make up the rest of the pay-table.
Feature Bonuses
Although there are no Scatters or Free Spins available in the game, our review managed to find a couple of Alchymedes bonus features that players will enjoy.
The Wildcard is the green toxic waste that appears on the left of the game screen and makes up the symbol that is shown on the left in the beaker.
At the end of each winning level, you will get enough Wildcard points to empty the green liquid, giving you the opportunity to change the Alchemist’s Scale. You can use the maximum wild, majority wild, maximum multiplier, the majority multiplier or keep the game the same. The Multiplier option starts at x1, but can rise to x5 randomly during a spin. The most a multiplier can be is x100.
The last feature bonus is the Random Feature Bonus, which occurs after The Alchemist’s Scale and provides players with some top rewards. Rewards include extra coins of up to 2,000, an improved starting Multiplier, extra pattern positions or a Rapid Multiplier growth.
RTP (return to player)
The return to player rate (RTP) is an incredibly important thing to take into account when looking at a slot game to play and our Alchymedes slot game review managed to find that Yggdrasil have set it at a respectable 96.1%, therefore players can expect frequent wins when spinning the reels.
